Abstract:In order to gear to the international practice of atmospheric motion vector BUFR encoding and to meet the requirements of international communication of meteorological satellite products, the BUFR encoding software of atmospheric motion vector data with the new WMO template is developed. In the encoding practice, the AMV quality control information is added by the associated field; the descriptors in one BUFR data subset are greatly increased from 18 to 254; and the information provided by the new template BUFR message is greatly enriched. The encoding results are shown that the length of the noncompressed BUFR message is 9 times bigger than that of the compressed one. For the convenience of GTS transformation, the compressed BUFR encoding is recommended, which has higher data compression ratio (about 53%) and is suitable for data transmission.
