Abstract:The climate characteristics, formation causes, and main circulation patterns of high temperature weather in Jieyang, Gangdong Province, are summarized on the basis of the analysis of high temperature weather from 1966 to 2006. The results indicate that the number of high temperature days in Jieyang has obvious time variation: below the normal before the 1990’s, steady around the normal from 1990 to 1997, obviously above the normal since 1998 with an increased intensity, which connected with not only global warming and urban heat island effect, but also regional atmospheric circulation abnormity. The major weather systems indusing high temperature weather in Jieyang include the subtropical high and tropical cyclones, the northwest air current of which enhances temperature increase. The former often results in longenduring high temperature weather, and the latter extreme high temperature.
