Abstract:The Typhoon Matsa affected Dalian on 8 August 2005. During the process, heavy or severe rainfall occurred in Dalian, and strong winds and high waves were observed over the sea area around Dalian with the wind force being force 7 to force 8, even up to force 11 instantaneously, which came across the astronomical tide peak, resulting the waves of more than 4 meter high and the storm surge over the Bohai Sea and the northern Huanghai Sea. By means of MM5 model and the third generation of shallowwater wave model SWAN, the simulation is conducted on the moving track of Typhoon Matsa and the winds and waves caused by Matsa. The simulated result is in accordance with the actual condition basically.
